VOID

Just like small grains of sand cause subtle circles in the water
so I search for the small ripples in my soul.
Do I hear a scream there? Laughs there a child?
Weep there somebody soft about the human imperfection?
I wait in the silence so that even the smallest sound can be heard; finally home.

Without effect: can I still be effective?
In the live performance VOID I create in the moment with these above mentioned issues.

The pianist Augusto Pirodda accompanies me live on stage.
The realization of my body of thought finds his reflection in the video’s on this site.

Atmosphere of VOID:

Nostalgia and homesickness, guilt and penalty,
I didn’t see them, now it’s maybe too late.
I’m destructive useless meat, ready to disappear,
but where to? Out of sight, so much is sure.
I bang with my head against the wall, just like a child.
Slopper-the-slop, red wine in the early morning tastes bitter,
I flush it out with French cheese, through my gullet,
till I’m dizzy in my head, after which I say: “kiss me”,
but you are not there, my legs and arms are useless empty,
my uterus pointless, the days are like links in a chain;
monotonous and barbaric.
Moses in his cradle, floating on the water;
his life ended also unsettled.
Books are not often filled with only disaster,
happy endings feel better, like in fairytales.
Outdoors the sun shines the lights in the Christmas tree blind
Look at the shiny meat-hooks in the slaughterhouses,
thousands turkeys on a row, sacrificed for peace on Earth,
…..yes everything has its price.

Review of F.L.O.W. Edinburgh:

By Mary Brennan in the Herald (****):

'Okay folks - let's hear it for the renegades, the eccentrics,
the freespirited talents that cluster under the banner of
dance and physical theatre, but are really looking to make
work that transcends boundaries. Without them, the Fringe
would lose some of the magical serendipity that leaves
audiences feeling - knowing - that they've witnessed something
different and special that has possibly changed their outlook
forever more'.

I have no idea if the Neel de Jong show you should try to see,
will be the same F.L.O.W. (****) I watched last week at Bedlam.
Chances are de Jong herself doesn't know, because her whole being
- and her whole being pours into her on-stage performance - acts
as a litmus, or a chameleon, in response to the world as she sees
it at any given moment. Her interests just now seem to focus on
the small things, the simple things that can only be appreciated
if you take time to stop, stare and play. Consciously reconnecting
with the wonder you felt as a child, de Jong has an exquisite capacity
for radiating just such a sense of beguiled, beaming pleasure and
amazement. Like any form of meditation - and really, this is at the
heart of what de Jong offers - it demands that you focus on what
is being said and shown. Otherwise the ragbag assortment of
actions, the little paper boats and white balloons, will arrive like
bits of forgotten debris that de Jong has rummaged from her
costume (and memory's) pockets. Fabulous. Lucky.
Outrageous. World. F.L.O.W. Go with it, and you'll come out
smiling - even the rain and the roadworks won't seem so grim
.
